I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Lydia and Luke’s wedding at the iconic Asylum Chapel in Peckham, London. It was a day filled with love, intimacy, and a warm family atmosphere—a perfect reflection of the couple’s vision for their wedding.
The ceremony took place at the evocative Asylum Chapel in Caroline Gardens, a venue that never fails to amaze. The way the light dances around the weathered walls is mesmerizing, adding depth and character to every shot. If you’re looking for a unique and alternative venue in London, The Asylum Chapel should be high on your list. The charm of this disused church on Asylum Road makes it an unforgettable backdrop for a wedding day.
Beautiful tones at The Asylum Chapel
After a relaxed hour at The Asylum Chapel following the ceremony, we headed to the East Dulwich Tavern (EDT), one of my favorite pubs in London. The reception upstairs was an absolute hit, with Luke and Lydia cleverly turning part of the space into a soft play area for the children. It was a brilliant solution, keeping the little ones entertained and happy while still within sight of their parents. The family-friendly vibe was woven into every detail of the day, making it truly special.
Brilliantly inspired Bake Off!
One of the most memorable moments was their Bake Off-inspired dessert table. Luke and Lydia invited guests to bring cakes and desserts, with three of the older children acting as judges. Watching them take their roles seriously—evaluating each entry with the intensity and expertise of seasoned critics—was a joy. I don’t think I’d want my cakes under their scrutiny!
We wrapped up the day with a few relaxed couple portraits and some group shots outside the pub, right by the famous street art by Conor Harrington. It was the perfect way to end the day, and I couldn’t help but smile all the way home.
On receiving their photos, Lydia sent me a lovely message, which made the day even more special.
“Thank you again for your absolutely beautiful photos. We are so lucky to have found such a delightful and talented photographer to capture all of those lovely moments from our special day. We were so nervous about it, but our favourite part of the day was the ceremony at the Asylum. It was so atmospheric and magical and your photos have just captured that so perfectly. It is so lovely to see everyone looking so happy, and you have managed to get such lovely shots of all the children, which we know is not an easy task!
It feels like a lifetime ago already, but each time we look at the pictures it all comes flooding back – and I still shed a tear every time I watch the lovely slideshow. The pictures are absolutely everything we hoped for and more, and we can’t wait for the next opportunity to book you for another session! “
If you’re planning a wedding at The Asylum Chapel and are looking for a photographer to capture your unique day, I’d love to hear from you!
Enjoy the photos! x
